Many years ago, I lived in St. Kitts. I ended up coming home quicker than expected to be with family during some tough times, but the island will always hold a special spot in my heart. This port of call during our Carnival Cruise was my first time back on the island since living there, and my husband had never been to St. Kitts, so we decided an island tour would be a great excursion for us to go on. The snorkeling and SCUBA is amazing in St. Kitts, and there were A LOT of other awesome excursions, so I guess we’ll just have to go back for longer next time! I wasn’t sure how much the island would come back to me after all those years, but everything looked and felt so familiar, like it had only been a short time I was away.
Top 10 Best of St. Kitts – duration ~4hrs
1/2 island tour – we drove past many historical buildings, and made several stops for photo ops and to explore along the way. Our stops included: Palm Court Gardens, Romney Manor/Caribelle Batik, Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, and Timothy Hill.
We rode in a nice air-conditioned bus, and I got to be co-pilot for the day and sit up front with our guide, Nigel, who was excellent. He discussed the history of each sight, and was a lot of fun to listen to. I would highly recommend this trip.
Brimstone Hill – This stop involved the most walking of the tour. There is a steep incline to walk up to the fort, but otherwise it is a pretty mild hike.
Romney Manor/Caribelle Batik
Things to bring
Sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle, money (especially for shopping at Caribelle Batik), camera
The port has a lot of fun touristy/souvenir stores, as well as some pricier stores. There are areas to eat as well. We had some time after our tour to walk around before we had to be back on the boat.
Since our cruise had so many ports of call (a new place each day), we tried to space out our adventures by doing a more demanding tour one day, and a calmer tour the next day to sort of “recover” if we needed to. This doesn’t always work out, but it’s worth a try.
