We recently returned from our trip to South Africa and I’m slowly catching up on sleep and still have a mound of laundry and other things to get in order before next week… but, couldn’t wait that long to sort through some pictures. It will be awhile before I get them very organized so keep tuned for future posts here or on facebook if you’re interested. I did however pick out a few favorites from our safari/game drive adventures and decided to post about the “Big Five” game animals that we saw.
The Big Five are: Elephant, Lion, Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo, and Leopard. We saw 4 of the 5 on our trip, just missed out on seeing a leopard. There were so many other animals we saw as well: cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, tons of warthogs, ostriches, monkeys, etc. etc. which I’ll share pictures of in the future.
The elephants were probably my favorite of all the animals that we saw. They were spotted off in the distance, and at first it looked like there were only a couple. I didn’t think they’d come very close… and was wishing we had a larger zoom lens on the camera when all of the sudden they started walking slowly in our direction. A few moments passed and the 2 or 3 elephants turned into around 10. They kept walking closer and closer and closer… and ended up passing by us only a few feet from our vehicle!
